Anisotropic nanomaterials: structure, growth, assembly, and functions

چکیده
Comprehensive knowledge over the shape of nanomaterials is a critical factor in designing devices with desired functions. Due to this reason, systematic efforts have been made to synthesize materials of diverse shape in the nanoscale regime. Anisotropic nanomaterials are a class of materials in which their properties are direction-dependent and more than one structural parameter is needed to describe them. Their unique and fine-tuned physical and chemical properties make them ideal candidates for devising new applications. In addition, the assembly of ordered one-dimensional (1D), two-dimensional (2D), and three-dimensional (3D) arrays of anisotropic nanoparticles brings novel properties into the resulting system, which would be entirely different from the properties of individual nanoparticles. This review presents an overview of current research in the area of anisotropic nanomaterials in general and noble metal nanoparticles in particular. We begin with an introduction to the advancements in this area followed by general aspects of the growth of anisotropic nanoparticles. Then we describe several important synthetic protocols for making anisotropic nanomaterials, followed by a summary of their assemblies, and conclude with major applications.

Growth of Anisotropic Gold Nanoparticle Assemblies via Liposome Fusion
Anisotropic assembly of nanoparticles (NPs) has attracted extensive attention because of the potential applications in materials science, biology, and medicine. However, assembly control (e.g., the number of assembled NPs) has not been adequately studied. Here, the growth of anisotropic gold NP assemblies on a liposome surface is reported. Citrate-coated gold NPs adsorbed on liposome surfaces w...
متن کاملTunable Anisotropy in Inverse Opals and Emerging Optical Properties
Using self-assembly, nanoscale materials can be fabricated from the bottom up. Opals and inverse opals are examples of self-assembled nanomaterials made from crystallizing colloidal particles. As self-assembly requires a high level of control, it is challenging to use building blocks with anisotropic geometry to form complex opals, which limits the possible structures. Typically, spherical coll...
متن کاملGrowth of anisotropic one-dimensional ZnS nanostructures{
Anisotropic growth in nanomaterials can lead to many interesting growth morphologies. This is especially true when the crystal structure contains anisotropy not only due to different surface plane energies but also due to surface polarity and/or chemical activity. Such is the case with wurtzite ZnS. This feature article covers the ZnS one-dimensional nanostructures that have been synthesized by...
متن کاملOrigin of chains of Au-PbS Nano-Dumbbells in space
Self-assembled, one-dimensional (1D) nanomaterials are amenable building blocks for bottom-up nanofabrication processes. A current shortcoming in the self-assembly of 1D nanomaterials in solution phase is the need for specific linkers or templates under very precise conditions to achieve a handful of systems. Here we report on the origin of a novel self-assembly of 1D dumbbells consisting of Au...
متن کاملStudy of the Shape Controlling Silver Nanoplates by Reduction Process
In this work, we report synthesis of silver nanoplates by a simple reduction process of silver nitrate in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and N,N'-dimethyl formamide (DMF). The Characterization of the samples were carried out using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission-electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-vis spectroscopy. Absorption spectra of the nanoplates in comparison with that of the ...
